Combining a trip to sunny Spain with work experience is almost too good to be true, but cities like Santander, Segovia, Zaragoza and Valladolid offer just that! Out side of work, there is usually a wide range of activities to encourage you to practise the language and experience the culture. Check prices and availability.
European work experience placements are open to sixth formers (Year 12 and 13) studying a foreign language to AS, A2 or similar level. Individuals or groups of sixth form students can apply for a one-week programme in the country of their choice.
Students will be asked to indicate their work placement preferences from sixteen categories. Examples of typical placements are shops, restaurants, cafés, hotels and kindergartens. Click here for a full list of categories.
It is important to note that the main aim of the work experience trip is to improve students' linguistic abilities, therefore when choosing their categories, students should take this into account and select placements where
they feel that they will get the most language practice and experience, rather than a placement where they can't really get stuck in and get involved with, just because they are perhaps considering it as a future career.

Students will normally spend 5 days at their work
placement.
However, please note that due to Bank Holidays, Monday closure or other constraints some students may work less than five days. In these instances additional opportunities for recreation, shopping or discovering the local area will normally be provided.

There are two different options available.
Coach
Coach transportation is normally provided via pick-ups at motorway services in England along the M1/M6/M4 corridors. Where groups of more than 10 are involved we may be able to offer closer pick-ups.
Air
Usually flights will be from one of the London airports and students are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to and from the appropriate UK airport. Coach transfers to and from resort are included in the package.

Students are offered two accommodation options for their placement.
Hotel/Youth hostel
Students are usually accommodated in 2 or 3 star hotels in Spain and Italy, and 2 star hotels and youth centre accommodation in France and Germany. Where we use Youth Centre accommodation it is of a very high
standard, normally with 2-4 students to a room.
Host family half board
The host family option is only available in France at the moment and involves students staying with French
families, often with children of their own.
Family stay options may be available via our tailor made service. Contact us for details.

With the increased emphasis on vocational training and qualifications,
many more schools, colleges, universities and employers are seeking to
give students practical experience of using their skills in work related
situations.
A Halsbury work experience placement will provide you with such experience
and at the same time give you the opportunity to practise your language
skills in a foreign country and experience something of the culture and
life abroad.

You can book online now, it is quick and easy. When we receive your booking form, we will send you an application form which asks for a lot of information about yourself.
The aplication form will list 16 categories of placements. We ask you to choose your top 8
in order of
preference from 1 (your top choice) to 8. You will always be given a
placement from these choices (unless your application form is received
too late for
us to action them, in which case you will be allocated a placement according
to availability). Usually you will be given something from your top 3 choices.
These choices are broad categories such as “Art/History” which could
include a work placement in a museum or in an art gallery shop for example
or “Tourism” which might be a placement in an airport or travel
agency. You will also be asked to write a letter to your prospective
employer in the language of the destination country. All of the information
given on
the application form and in the letter is taken into consideration when
we choose your placement, as is the level of your language skills as
outlined by your teacher on the booking form.
