We typically advise students about Leonardo funding and Petchey funding. Both schemes will financially support your work experience abroad if you meet their criteria.
The Foundation is eager to help young people take advantage of opportunities and to play a full part in society.
The Jack Petchey Foundation is eager to help young people take advantage of opportunities and to play a full part in society and some students will be able to apply for their funding.
Who can apply
Jack Petchey funding is available to young people aged 11- 25 in London and Essex.
For a full list of the areas covered, and information on how to apply please visit their web site http://www.jackpetcheyfoundation.org.uk/.
Leonardo Funding is designed to support European Mobility Projects. The European Union has earmarked €1,150 Million Euros (£766 Million sterling) for European MOBILITY Projects.
What is a Mobility Project?
Mobility projects are designed to encourage young students
within the EU to travel to other member countries to learn
about their language, culture and work. Until the EU has
a fully mobile workforce it will never be able to take
advantage of the idea of a Single European Labour Market.
Leonardo offers Grant-Funding to All Students...regardless
of wealth, status or qualifications, in order that young
people may be encouraged to venture into other parts of
Europe to discover their People, their Culture, their
Language and their Work Opportunities.... thus promoting
a more mobile work-force within Europe.
Who can Apply?
The Types of Vocational Course that are eligible for fund
aiding are usually NVQ or AVCE.
Examples of Qualifying Courses:
What conditions Apply?
You should forge links with European Bodies, Partners and
Agencies in order to find work-placements and partner organisations
who will mentor your students.
Acorn Educational Exchanges is an Approved Partner Organisation for arranging such
projects.
When should I apply?
Please double-check on the Leonardo web site when the deadline is, but we recommend you get in early.
Your students could qualify for up to 75%
of the cost of a Work Experience Trip to Europe! To
be eligible for Leonardo Funding Schools, Colleges and
Academic Institutions must apply for funding by the
given deadlines or ask Acorn to do so on behalf of their
students..... ask Acorn how they can help your application.
What sort of Work Experience Trips can we arrange?
A typical project that we can help you to arrange is
a 3 week trip to any EU or EU applicant country (it
can be longer but not usually much shorter):
A Work Experience Trip involving Students on a recognised
NVQ or AVCE or Modern Language Course
The courses usually include:
Do we have to send our own staff with the students?
No, you don't have to send your own staff, but you are
very welcome to do so and usually staff are Grant-funded
through Leonardo for most of their expenses....but Acorn
have trained Course Leaders that they will send if you
do not have staff who would like to take part, or if
you need extra staff**.
**You must let us know at he start of the project whether
you are planning for your own staff to supervise or
whether you would prefer Acorn staff to supervise the
Group entirely ... this effects the total overall cost.
What about expenses for our staff to accompany
or pre-visit?
It is possible that Leonardo will fund one or two staff
on a pre-visit to the location of the trip and likewise
if staff accompany the main party. It is quite usual
for teaching staff to accompany the trips, although
it is not entirely necessary if you do not have staff
willing to undertake this role, as Acorn Staff will
accompany and supervise the trip throughout as necessary.
Teaching and Academic Staff who accompany their students
usually qualify for Leonardo Grant Funding also for
their expenses as follows: Cost of staff flights to
Destination Resort (Excluding transfers from Airport
to Hotel). Hotel or Youth Hostel Accommodation and Board.
How much does it cost? Depending on the country of destination
the cost for a 3 week package as described above starts
at £225 for the student (actually £899 in total....of
which 75% is funded by the Leonardo grant) but more
precise costings can be provided on application to Acorn.
